The next day my parents did think the snow was a bit too deep to send me to school but after that it was school as usual! I travelled across Leeds by tram and bus to go to school in 1947, I never missed a day I do NOT believe you and Jennifer are old enough to have been at school in 1947! I certainly am. I can believe Jennifer is too. I can remember the cold winter and chilblains of 1944 too. Should I now call you Father Time? ;-) or just Martin, sir? ) Pah! On topic - there were usually a few Snowdrops out on my birthday though! ... and snow in 1940, I think - if pics of me sitting in my pram aren't faked! The River Thames froze at Kingston upon Thames and I can just remember being pushed onto it in my pram. Towards the latter end of the war we would go to an Aunt's Summer Residence on Hayling Island and I can remember travelling down in some pretty shocking weather. Mike |

Ah - a week is a long time for a snowdrop - depending, of course, on the variety. ;-) Jennifer ;-) It is indeed. I think you, Val and I are all Capricorns. Does this make us a herd, I wonder. ;-) -- Sacha http://www.hillhousenursery.com South Devon Perennials & shrubs online |
