Can aubergine seedlings be planted deeper than their roots to alow the stem
to root, like tomatoes and chillis?

Probably - but why?

Aubergines are the food of Stan, and only fit for planting
upside-down as a green manure.

I thought they take about 6 days to germinate, so I left them in my magic
airing cupboard and checked after three days and not only had they
germinated, they'd got about 2 inches tall and were a bit 'leggy'. Just
wanted to see if I could bury a bit of the stem when I dib them out to
shorten them a bit.

Probably, then, but try a few and use a fungicide in the compost.
