Default cheerful shrub suggestion for shaded location

Could someone please suggest a good *evergreen* fairly hardy shrub that
will produce cheerful flowers in a south facing, but shaded location in
North London.

It's to go in good top soil that's about a foot and a half deep, and then
resting
on clay. Many thanks.

Do you know anyone who sells female ones? I've got a male, and I'm wondering if it's lonely. My supplier only had males, and many people don't specify.
