Default when to plant winter pansies

As usual I've lost the magazine but I read (in the last 3 weeks) that it
was better to plant winter pansies either very early or later on for the
best flower display during winter. Apparently it is critical when you
plant them to get the best display throughout winter.

Does anyone recall reading the tip or better still anyone know ?

I have to plant a lot for someone and could go and buy them this weekend
but if it's better i could leave it till later in the autumn

We planted some this time last year. They are still flowering right

I suspect it could be a bit of a try-it-and-see this year anyhow, because of
the weird weather. I've heard we're due an Indian summer /and/ an early
onset winter, at the same time now. Maybe they'll cancel each other out

Slightly OT but we are thinking about planting a couple of hanging
baskets with (single colour) trailing pansies. I wonder if anyone has
any experience with them or knows of a sound supplier.
