Default Am I too late ??

Last year I sowed some cabbage seed in the
cold frame and I had a nice early crop this year.
Problem is, I can't remember exactly when I
sowed them or what variety they were.
Am I too late now and what seed should I use ??
Can anybody help please.

Pushing it a bit now. Can you get any cabbage seedlings from a garden
centre? Pushes the price up a lot compared to seed, but still maybe
worth it.

I did consider that David but the prices at our local garden centres
made that a big no no.
Thanks for the reply anyway

You coulkd try Spring cabbage like Greyhound or Derby day, if we get a
mild winter you may get away with it, remember you can cut early to
give you greens (Collards) if they don't work what have you lost, A
packet of seed.

Officially Autumn ended only 4 days ago, so you could take a punt on 'Spring
Hero, Hispi or Duncan'

Greyhound, as Dave suggested, is quite hardy and has nice solid hearts if
planted firmly. It is one of those pointed shaped varieties and is very
nice tasting. I have some already planted and have sown a few seeds last
week in a cold frame and are showing.
Thing is that they MAY need some frost protection and definatly if this
comming winter is like the last.
Last year in our neck of the woods winter started on 5 Nov. with heavy
snow and didnt defrost 'till half way through Feb. What a winter!

For next year what you can do is to sever any cabbage you have growing in
summer or autumn and leave the root in the soil and they will regrow some
leaves for "greens" during the winter months. Now THEY have a lovely
taste and are the very nice colour, deep green, full of iron too.

What I think is to overdo the whole cabbage thing, such as sow, plant,
and also leave the roots to grow extras if all fails.

If you are unlucky (as Dave said) you might lose out of pocket a packet
of seed. On the other hand you might be awash with cabbage.
