Enamel & silver orchid
Some years ago I was given an enamel & silver orchid on a stem, with a
silver leaf. It fits into a bud vase I have. I'm trying to find another and despite extensive searchinig, using all kinds of search terms, I can't find one! The jeweller it came from no longer stocks them. Has anyone seen anything like this? I need it for a birthday present! -- Sacha www.hillhousenursery.com South Devon www.helpforheroes.org.uk |

I don't suppose a pic is possible? -- Spider from high ground in SE London gardening on clay |

I've taken one and will upload it tomorrow. But it's about 12" long and not jewellery. It's definitely intended to be in a vase and is ornamental. -- Sacha www.hillhousenursery.com South Devon www.helpforheroes.org.uk |

In fact, the miniature orchid with the single stem in the gold vase is very like it indeed but not enamelled, I think. -- Sacha www.hillhousenursery.com South Devon www.helpforheroes.org.uk |

I think they're stunning! Even more so "in the flesh". They aren't uncommon in the south of Western Australia - I photographed the Purple Enamel Orchid (Elythranthera brunonis) there around 30 years ago. I could not believe they weren't made of china! If you ever get the chance, go here to see them (and many other amazing plants): http://www.westernaustralia.com/en/D...l_Park/9113620 Quote: "Home to more than 1,800 beautiful and bizarre species of flowering plants, Fitzgerald River National Park packs 20 per cent of Western Australia's plant species into 0.13 per cent of the State, creating one of the most diverse botanical regions on Earth." I could have spent weeks there, but could only stay a few days. :-( -- Jeff |

I've been looking for a while, but the nearest thing I've seen is in the link below. It's porcelain, rather than enamelled silver, and it's rather expensive. Even if the price is right, I don't know how easy it would be to obtain one. http://romanceher.com/glazedrorchids.htm I've tried googling under 'cloisonne' and all sorts, but there's nothing quite like yours. -- Spider from high ground in SE London gardening on clay |
