Are any other people here with Zen? They're closing their
usenet/newgroup service in August. Has anyone found another
newgroup/newsnet provider, especially with binaries for
plants?

Albasani (http://www.albasani.net/index.html.en)

It does some binaries, including alt.binaries.pictures.gardens. It's
free, but donations can be made.

Thanks from me too, although I'll also stay with NIN this looks quite
good and has been bookmarked for future.

Does your newsreader not allow multiple accounts?

Sure, but I have no reason for them as for the moment NIN gives me
everything I need, and I think the price is quite fair. I only subscribe
to a few newsgroups all available on NIN.

I use the free provider
http://www.eternal-september.org/ but
this is a text only news server.
