Default Strange bug found in compost!!

Hi :-)

Does anyone know what this is - 2 views. One of them flew off, although the wings must be very thin!

I need also to know if I can still use the compost after infestation, and if not, how do I get rid of them, please?

Question

Someone has told me it looks like a solder/compost fly. but I cannot quite pin my hopes on that as it looks different to the photos of such in google.

All I see is your Facebook page, no photo of a bug. Gardenbanter do tell you
how to deal with photos somewhere on their site, most of us that come direct
use something like flickr.

No that doesn't work. I suspect you have to be foolish enough to sign up
to farcebook to see the pictures

I wondered if that might be the problem. Tried Facebook for some while and
came off. Still use Twitter but not much.

You typed the same link twice.
Anyway, it's the Devil's Coach-horse. A carnivore that eats woodlice.

I could only see a Fb page but Devil's Coach Horses eat all sorts of
creepy crawlies including slugs. That's probably why the beetles were in
the compost - it's like a 5* restaurant for them in there. An
interesting and useful inhabitant of your garden I'd say; no need to try
and exterminate them.

But Sue, what about the worms in the compost? I love to see millions of them
in my compost, are they going to provide the main course?
