After a lot of research I've decided to try Teranews at US $3.95 one off
payment and so far it's doing OK.
I shall continue to use NIN for non-binary Ngs.

Presumably, there is some daily download limit on Teranews for that
price?

Typically news servers for binary groups charge a fee for a fixed time,
and/or for a certainly amount of download
