Default Redcurrant buds

I have some pretty healthy redcurrant bushes that are probably around 10
years old (just moved house, you see). On a lot of the tips of the
branches, the buds are rounded and pea-sized, somewhat larger than the
usual buds elswhere on the bushes. These buds don't seem to be developing
and have not opened.

Does anyone know what causes this? Is it normal ? Tim.

Thanks Robert. I google'd it and it looks like a promising candidate.
Better get rid of it then. I don't think it's too bad a the moment, so I
might be able to nip it in the bud (sorry).
