Is it a weed?
Got a plant growing in my back garden this year, and I don't recognise it.
I've had a look on a few weed websites but haven't spotted it either. It's got thickish, slightly hairy dark green leaves, about 6 cm long. The leaf shape is pointed oval, but not narrow. The plant is sending out small, cobalt-blue flowers - 5 petals if I remember correctly. The height of the plant is about 50 cm tall, several thick, fleshy stems coming out from a single root. Does this ring a bell with anyone? It's not borage .. the flowers of my plant are too small and deeper in colour. Best, - h |

Sounds like one of the same family, though. Try alkanet - Pentaglottis
sempervirens. That's the baby! It's actually quite pretty, unlike most weeds. Best, - h |

Oh, I don't find it too difficult .......I just pull it up before it has much chance to set seed. I am usually left with one or two the next year, but it is a bit like a very tall forget me not so I don't mind too much Jenny |

Pretty, but not what we wanted. So up it all came... and it came back from root stock and seeds. It's a continuous blight in my vegetable patch, every year there seem to be more seedlings, and I've not let it set seed at that end of the garden in four years. I used to like the stuff, now I can barely look at it. Shame it's not edible. |

If the garden was big enough for a wilderness patch ... but it ain't. I am very happy with forget me nots however. Alkanet seems to me like the big bruiser variation thereof.
