Default Which rose & clemetis?

I am looking for both a climbing rose & a clematis to pretty up the front of
my house once it has been repainted. The rose will be planted to the side of
the garage in a bricked raised bed & the clematis will have to be planted in
a container to climb up my porch.
I would like long flowering plants - a blue or purple clematis & a pink or
lavender-pink rose.

Any suggestions as to which ones would be best?

Thanks,
Jayne

'Jayne',

Probably best if you choose your rose from this site:

http://www.davidaustinroses.com/english/

The President is a popular and attractive clematis. It needs no pruning
except for tidying it up to your satisfaction.

I like "Star of India" clematis. Not too found of roses, but I heard of one
called "ramblin rose" that grows very quickly. Good luck!

I bought a pink climber called New Dawn from David Austin (though it
is not his hybrid) and I am very happy with it in a N-NW wall. Having
said that, its scent is not as strong as suggested, but then again I
am in cool Scotland.

Have a look round to see if you have a local rose or clematis specialist
near you, then go along to have a look. There are a huge number of
clematis in the colours you are looking for, and the same applies to
roses. You will also get expert advice on which will go best with which.
