Default Bean crop set problem

This year I have an odd problem with my beans. Two varieties being grown
are French Bean Tender crop (dwarf) and Runner Bean Scarlet Emperor.
There are half a dozen plants of each type growing together. Both are
growing vigorously in well fertilised soil with plenty of food and
water.

The problem is that whereas both groups of plant are covered with plenty
of flowers the French Beans have an excellent crop set and the Runner
beans have none! (Actually not quite true there is a single runner
bean).

OK Scarlet Emperor is very handsome and the 8' bean poles are absolutely
covered with red flowers but why am I not getting any beans? There are
plenty of pollinating insects and no obvious signs of disease.

Any recommendations please on how to make them set seed ?

Regards,

Its been very hot and they don't like that - spraying with water with an old
Victorian pump spray helps.
