Can't remember what the 4th declension is. But isn't -us ending normally
1st declension?

Yes, and the fourth.

Er, no. The 2nd and the 4th. The normal 1st ending is -a.

OED "virus pl viruses"

Yes - anglicised, and in the context of virus the living organism and by
association, virus the destructive self-replicating computer program.

However, the OED is not an authority to consult on matters of Latin
grammar. (Nor, as certain Urglers have pointed out, on botanic
accuracy.)

Nor the Win95 CD OED with a WinXP OS :-((

I think I was the first to muddy the waters here. I know no Latin worth
spitting on, and when I used the word "virus" I meant the English word. I
am now happy that the plural is "viruses".
Perhaps we have now all had our money's worth?

Which is why I shall never be 'upgrading' to XP. I'm not concerned that
support for 98 etc will be discontinued - I've never used it anyway.

Soon, a promised O'Reilly CD book should drop through my litterbox
(amongst the lbooyd flats end hard spam!) and I can learn properly to
fly my Debian installation.

I have enough software on Linux Magazine's coverdisks to keep me
occupied indefinitely.

You'd better use them before they go stale.
