Default Potatoes in a tub????

The message
from Charles Thorpe contains these words:

I've got some ex Tesco spuds chitting away nicely in an eggbox on the
kitchen window sill. What should be a good time to plant them out?

I've never grown taters before, sny pointers welcome!

Plant them any time from now, inside, and the traditional time for
planting out is around Good Friday.

Has anyone grown potatoes in a large tub ?

I am thinking of lining a dustbin with a bin liner (both to have drainage
holes) and growing some in it

cos i guess its easy to pile in soil to earth up

experience/advice please

I planted potatoes in plastic tubs bought from focus last year ( two for a

tenner) with some success but had trouble judging how much water to use and
have no idea what to feed them with, so would appreciate some advice on both
problems please.
By the way, I did remember to drill holes in the tubs.

I tried growing spuds in a plastic dustbin, but as suggested elsewhere they
didn't like growing in the bottom away from the light, so they didn't do
very well.
I guess that starting in something low and building it up (as with the car
tyres) would be a better way.
Contemplating a box-type arrangement (similar to a compost heap) where you
can add wooden slats to raise the sides as the spuds grow and you add
compost.
However I probably won't have the time this year :-(

Cheers
Dave R

Any excess water should drain out.

I use Tomorite as a fertiliser, and a foliar feed of steeped weeds.

You earth them up as they grow, then add another layer of seed potatoes,
allowing those to grow until high enough to be banked up again, and
so-on until the bin is full.

However I probably won't have the time this year :-(

Time? Three or four minutes a fortnight?

Yes. Works really well but you need to put TONS of water in there if you
want a good crop (make sure there's drainage too!)

If I allocate three to four minutes a fortnight to building the wooden
slatted box then it might be ready by Christmas :-)

Then again:
