Hi,

I've got some well chitted first earlies, wanted to plant this weekend,

but
is it wise with the frozen ground? should I wait? or wont it matter?

Don't plant in frost. The old saying is, plant potatoes when the earth
is warm enough to sit on without your trousers.

Yes, but you'd need your thermals right now, no?

Duh..so don't plant your potatoes yet :-)

Plant them (traditionally) on Good Friday - depending on where in the
country you are.

Ok thanks I will hold off for a short while

however good friday seens late - maincrop maybe, but not earlies - surely
thats the point of them!?

I'm also down south which gives me a couple of weeks leeway too.

Well, I'd wait until mid March, and if cold weather seems likely, cover
them with straw, fleece, and/or polythene sheet.

Or cloches.

but Good Friday is a movable feast. I think you'll have to do better
than that.

Yes, but governed by the phase of the moon, which will be approaching
full. I don't know exactly *HOW* the moon can affect the weather, but it
seems to.
