Growing blueberries in UK
In message , nambucca
writes "OrangeMan" wrote in message . com... as we see they have been declared as superfoods , so whats the position on growing ? They will only grow in acid soil I have tried growing them in pots of ericacous compost to no avail We have two growing in large pots of Ericacous compost that are quite happy. I stand them in large saucers to keep their feet wet as they like it damp. -- Chris French and Helen Johnson, Leeds urg Suppliers and References FAQ: http://www.familyfrench.co.uk/garden/urgfaq/index.html |

Highly acid soil (pH around 4.0), never dry, at least two cultivars since they are self-sterile. And they seem to do better with some summer warmth; otherwise the berries tend to tartness rather than sweetness. Can't agree about needing two cultivars. Mine are the same, though I don't know which one it is, and they produce fruit freely. -- Chris Boulby National Collection of Diascias |

Growing blueberries in UK
I have 3 different varieties.one is a small shrub grows to about 24 inches
high and about 36 inches wide, the fruit is very sweet and tasty. This one was bought from a mail order company. Both of the others came from a garden centre and are much taller up to 5' at 3 years old, they have very little flavour although the fruits as a little bigger, even the kids wont eat them.
