Default Cats - a sensible suggestion

Well, did a search and came up with coleus canina:

http://plants.thompson-morgan.com/uk/product/2131/1

Has anyone tried it?

But maybe catmint or catnip around the area would help attract them to

it
in
the first place? Has anyone tried it for this purpose?

Not sure cats would want to combine their drug beds with their toilet
facilities, imagine the horror if one such drugged up cat were to

stagger,
or worse role accidently into the sand pit. They'd be cleaning

themselves
for days, not that they don't anyway !

Just a thought, is there such a thing as anti-cat nip or anti-cat mint

ie.
something which cats hate? It could be useful as companion planting round
the veg...

I haven't personally, but a year or two ago one of the Sunday papers
gardening column tested it and the cats gave a wide berth. About 3 feet
wide.

I am told in another ng that Longleat sell Lion shit which keeps the domestic
horrible things away for 12 months.

It can be ordered by e-mail but poisoning the b*stards might teach their
selfish owners a better lesson.

I have had reasonable results with planting ruta graveolens (but did not put
up a video camera to check if they kept all the cats away). I just went to a
search to learn its latin name (because I only know the dutch name) and the
web owner warns against planting it near things like basil because the bad
smell of ruta might influence the taste of other plants.

http://www.ouroboros.nl/~janneke/kru...n/wijnruit.php

I don't know if people can smell it too or if you would only smell it when
you put your nose to the plant.

I hadn't heard that cats don't like it but a word of warning - rue can cause
an allergic skin reaction in some people if picked or even brushed against.
I believe it's an abortifacient, too and the old 'wise women' used it as
such.
