I'm trying to grow some mint from cuttings.

Mint is /supposed/ to root easily - but I'm having some problems.

I've tried putting the cuttings in water, but find that they wilt
faster than they take up fresh water.

Did you cut the ends of the stems before you put them in water?

I did.

I suspect there may also bo some mystical art of slicing bits from
the side - which I haven't mastered yet.

I may persevere with my science experiments.

I may wait until next time I see my Gran - and steal some of her mint.

Or I might try a garden centre.

Striking cuttings from mint plants?.
Mint is a ferociously fast growing weed and has a massive root system, it's
as bad if not worse than convolvulus.
Grip a smallish bunch of stems and pull 'em out without breaking them away
from their roots., Ease out with a trowel if necessary. Now you have a
problem. Where are you going to plant them. In your garden?, - not Pymalion
likely!, You'll be overrun in no time.
Keep them out of your borders.
Get a big shallow container of some sorts, drill holes in the bottom and
fill with any old soil.
Stuff the roots into the soil and put the container out of the way
somewhere. Shift it occasionally or the roots will go through the holes.
The roots can propagate in the soil like convolvulus so keep the b-----s
isolated but not starved of sun or nutriment, - easy on the last item,
though, just enough and no more than that.
What's wrong with mint sauce from Asdas?.

My mints are all in pots. None have escaped to date.

I like to eat my mint fresh - when I can manage it.
