I'd prefer to compost it first. In my time I _have_ dug long dung in
and got away with it; but it's not standard procedure. Plants don't
like it much.

Depends on the plants. Celery and cauliflowers, and most cucurbits revel
in it. I don't know abut border plants, I don't tend to play with those
unless they give themselves up.
