Bay tree
Any advice please on how and when to propagate a bay tree . I have a few tip
cuttings in coarse gritty compost which I put out Autumn time . They are still looking alive , but no sign of new growth . Is it likely there will be , or did I do it all wrong . Any pointers or advice gratefully received |

I am no good with cuttings, but that is right. If you know someone with an established one, they propagate readily from suckers. Regards, Nick Maclaren. |

Some cuttings of plants can take a lot longer than 6-8 months. Best bet is to wait until you can see the roots growing through the bottom of the pots you rooted them in ... maybe up to if not more than a year! |

Hi Nick - I already have an established tree (well. more a bush really ) that I've had for a few years and which is in a large tub . This grows nicely , but has never put out any suckers , so no joy there . I only need to increase my stock of plants to give to friends , which is why I asked . I'll just leave the ones I have here ,and see what transpires . Thanks for the replies |

Any pointers or advice gratefully received In my experience, bay cuttings root well if given bottom heat -- quite warm conditions, in fact. -- Rodger Whitlock Victoria, BC, Canada to send email, change atlantic to pacific and invalid to net |
