Default Passiflora "Incense" colour

Can anyone please let me know the correct colour of Passiflora "Incense"
the images of it that I have seen seem to vary so much. I thought they
might give me the link of an image of the correct colour, perhaps a
"Google" image search has the right colour.

John Vanderplank describes it as having large, showy mauve and violet
flowers which are very fragrant and produced in May if grown under

glass or
late June or July when grown outdoors. He describes it as a

"delightful
plant which is well worth growing outdoors or in the conservatory".
The sepals are pale violet or mauve inside, green outside; the petals

are
pale violet or mauve inside and outside. The Corona filaments are

banded
white and deep violet towards base then mauve flecked with white,

crinkled
towards apex.

Thank you Sacha, I know basically what it looks like but not definitely,
the images I have seen vary so much in its colour and I would like to
know for sure what its colour is before I order one. The first I saw one
was a T&M catalogue and it was stunning, now I have been sent a "Daily
Mirror" catalogue which has them in, my wife got some plants from their
offer before and the plant quality was excellent. Last time I was at
yours I was told that you don't have any.

Oh, dear, an UN-satisfied customer. ;-( For what it's worth and as a
personal opinion only, we don't stock it because Ray doesn't "think much of
it" as he puts it. From the Vanderplank description, it sounds as if the
colour *does* vary and AFAIK, that can happen quite a bit with Passiflorae.

As a PS to my own post, try
www.theplantsman.com Guy certainly lists it for
sale at 12.90. It's an excellent nursery in north Devon, specialising in
climbers only and only by mail order.

I am certainly never dissatisfied with HillHouse apart from you don't
sell small specimens of large variety bamboo's . I've never left with
less than two plants and the service is excellent. Thank you for the
extra info, I didn't know that they varied in colour, obviously culture
makes a difference so I'll get one and find out how to get it to my
favourite shade. I'm not sure who's who down there but a big bloke told
me that the only reason you don't sell them is that you couldn't get
them.

If it was in the week the big bloke could be Rob (shaven head), Matthew
(dark hair and specs) who is my stepson or Ray who is my husband (he's a bit
greyer than the other two)! All 3 are around 6' or more. Matthew is away
skiing at present but I'll ask him about that when he gets back, as he does
a lot of the ordering. Obviously, we *could* get them because Guy gets swaps
from us and vice versa but I just don't think Ray thinks it's worth it, as
he said before. The other thing with Passiflorae is that lovely as they
are, there are hundreds of them and one just has to stop somewhere! But give
Guy's site a looksee and your mouth will water over all sorts of other
lovely and exotic things. However, I notice that unlike Vanderplank, he
recommends it's kept just frost-free which could knock outdoor growing on
the head for a lot of people. If you want a pretty and scented one for
under glass and you can't get 'Incense', we have one here that David Poole
thinks is the lost 'John Innes' but other experts disagree. Our experience
is such is the world of Passiflorae!
Glad you've enjoyed yourself when you've been here - be sure to come and
bang on the back door next time and have a cup of tea, or something. (Come
near closing time and you might get something in a glass rather than a mug)
;-) As to the bamboos, is it a problem with getting them home, or
something? Matt now delivers but he does have to charge for it - £5 within
10 miles sort of thing.

You might say its a problem, I live in Kent . You had some lovely
types there last time, the train might take the strain but I don't think
the guard would. Seriously I think there must be a market for small
specimens for people like me who are somewhat light in the wallet
department.

I'll ask. ;-) You're not alone, though. We've had a few people from
London and its surrounds buying bamboos like crazy because they're just so
expensive 'up there'. I wonder if we have any other customers in Kent who
drive up and down......... ;-)
