Default Any suggestions for tree shape?

Hi all.
As my first bonsai, a fukien/carmona passed away last winter, I just
purchased my second and third bonsai trees yesterday. In other words, I am a
beginner to this. My new trees are one Ligustrum and one Sageretia, both
approx 22 cm tall. I haven't had much time for reading about these yet, but
would like to know if anyone has suggestions for shaping them, or if I just
should let them grow straight up. As you may read from the above, I'm not
that much accustomed to shaping and trimming. Any suggestion would be much
welcome.
