[IBC] Worried about Trident
I can't speak to Michigan, but here in New Jersey, I lost one trident (a
stump with one year's growth on the branches), and had considerable die-back on a forest. Both were in a cold frame, but the "stump" came from Florida, which, I suspect, led to its demise during our tough winter. Hope you do better. My Trident hasn't broken any buds yet. All my other trees have. I did the same over wintering to all the trees as I have done the last three years. The Trident has never had any problems before. All the branches are flexible and I lifted it from its pot. The roots look fine. I put it in a bigger pot and now I am waiting. Any ideas as to whats happening? I am in Michigan Zone 5 Are the buds still swelling? If you break a bud off, is it green underneath? If you scrape the bark do you see green? There are trees in each planting which have leaves up to 1 inch long, and some trees which have just started to have buds swelling. All trees were over-wintered the same for the last three years. It looks like all will leaf out some time.
