Default Lichen or knot, here it comes

I'm noticing some very small occurances of pale green (mint ice cream)
colored lichen growing on my little elm. For that matter, it's on my
bald cypress too. It's kind of to scale with the tree, but I'm sure
that changes over time as the patches get larger. Right now, it's as
small as the head of a pin.

Do I want the lichen on my tree? (looks okay now)

I'm seeing lichen on the bare wood (old removed branch). Do I want
the lichen here or will it impede tree's efforts to grow over the cut?
