Default [IBC] Chinese Elm confusion

Hi everyone. I'm a relative novice - but I've been lurking for quite a
while. This past summer I purchased a lovely Chinese Elm (and I'm so happy
that it's remained happy and healthy - so far). But I do have a question -
I'm a little confused with this tree. I've read that it's an indoor tree and
also that it's an outdoor tree. I've treated it as an outdoor tree (I'm in
Maryland - about 35 miles west of Baltimore - zone 6/7). After the first
light frost, I put the tree on a closed-in, unheated back porch with some
other outdoor trees. It had been a relatively warm winter until recently. My
tree lost most of it's leaves. And then the tree began sprouting new leaves
(yes - it was *that* warm here). Now, our temperatures have dropped below
freezing (and I understand that they are supposed to stay low) and I'm
concerned that such a fast drop in temp (especially when the tree was
obviously not dormant) will harm the tree. I'm also concerned about the
roots freezing. Should I just leave the tree where it is, or should I bring
it in to a heated area?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

oh, and thanks so much for all the great information that I've been able to
learn from reading all the posts.

best wishes for the new year,

Lisa Miller
