Default [IBC] Concave Cutter

----- Original Message -----
From: "David Quisenberry"

I had a very small concave cutter in the past which seems similiar to the
Joshua Roth 7169 Me-Tsumi. Are there alternative choices for this shape
available from other companies? I looked at Kiku, however, couldn't get
enough product description to verify the size of the cutting head.

David:

The most complete catalog I know of Japanese tools can be found at:

http://www.j-bonsai.com/

I have dealt with them and been very pleased with their service.

They require a bank check or money order. Postage becomes express mail once
it enters the US.

Michael: I got one years ago when they were a LOT
cheaper. (Wasn't everything?) I know these are
nice for working on azalea. What other uses have
you found for them?

Michael:

According to Bonsai Network Japan's catalog, they are available only from
Masakuni.

They come in two sizes, 170 & 215mm
They are available in stainless (nos. 8161 & 8061, respectively)
and in black (nos. 0161 and 0061, respectively)

Price in Japan is $98 for the stainless and $75 for the black.

Regards,

Bart

For those who are not familiar with this tool, the crescent blade branch

cutter has a spring for automatic opening after making a cut. The spring
can either be used or removed for complete manual control.

As for the question, I like to use it for both detailed work as well as

major branch removals. I look upon this tool as a 2-in-1 alternative to
carrying both shears and a concave cutter.

I am certain that you will agree that it is a fascinating and versatile

tool for the bonsai fanatic! );-) I do not know if it is available in
anything other than stainless steel.

Cordially,

Michael Persiano
