Default [IBC] Cryptomeria trunk chop

I have a pretty good-sized Cryptomeria that I managed to keep alive over
the Cleveland winter. Now that it is spring, I'd like to do a trunk
chop - leaving a new leader and first branch. The trunk is about 2" in
diameter and it is still in the nursery pot. Two questions: Are
Cryptomeria good candidates for trunk chops? Should I move it from the
nursery pot to a large shallower container with bonsai soil at the same
time as the chop - if the chop is feasible?

Thanks,

Jeff Isom
