Default shingles as ground mulch

I recently found a couple of bundles of shingles under my home. They are
the fiberglass type. I have a garden along my back property line which has
a ditch on the property line with 10 million dollar weed in it which
encroach into my garden. Would it be appropriate to use these shingles to
stop the invasion of dollar weeds. As they are a pain to remove from my
garden.

We've put waste shingles down in areas where we didn't want stuff growing,
like before we put the rock garden down, or on the lawn surrounding the shed
and we just walk on them; some weeds come up in between. I put them before
I put dirt in for my vegetable garden.
