fungi found in garden
Hi all, just a quick question. I found this fungi growing beside my compost
heap in my UK garden yesterday. It is purple in colour and measures about 2.5 inches tall. Can anyone help me to identify it? Thanx in advance. D http://img127.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img1...=purple2ot.jpg -- www.portadown.50megs.com |

I've no idea but these guys might know. http://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/species/Clitocybe_nuda.html http://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/index.html They'll probably want to know size, type of gills, spore print, and so on .. :-) -- Cheers, Loki [ Brevity is the soul of wit. And they have lots of photos. Not to mention a 'key' that helps describe them. Although sometimes I've found it's easier to look at a book in the library. -- Cheers, Loki [ Brevity is the soul of wit. W.Shakespeare ] |

In English the name is Wood Blewitt. I will second Lepista nuda, a name I love because it sounds so obscene. See: http://www.funghiitaliani.it/foto/nuda/2.jpg for another picture. See also this article http://botit.botany.wisc.edu/toms_fungi/nov98.html, which discusses other purple mushrooms as well as Lepista nuda. -- Warm Regards, Claire Petersky please substitute yahoo for mousepotato to reply Home of the meditative cyclist: http://home.earthlink.net/~cpetersky/Welcome.htm Personal page: http://www.geocities.com/cpetersky/ See the books I've set free at: http://bookcrossing.com/referral/Cpetersky |
