Default Need tall, thin plant for back of tank. Which do you recommend?

I have a 38 gallon tall. Currently 70 watts but will upgrade to 110
watts when UPS guy comes on Saturday (yeah!). Just started DIY CO2.
I have a bare spot at the back of the tank and I'd like to add
something tall and thin. I was thinking about Vallisneria spiralis or
Cyrp. balensee. Any other suggestions?

TIA,

How about Eleocharis montevidensis (giant hairgrass)? I was always looking
for a background plant that wouldn't grow over and shade out the middle of
the tank between prunings. I just planted some for the first time about a
month ago. It's about 20" tall and looks sort of like chives.

That sounds like a cool plant-- I take it you have had a good experience
with it so far.. how does it compare to valisneria? I have not heard of
this one before. Is it a fast grower? 20 inches is a nice height. It does
not seem to go beyond this height?

I was going to recommend Valisneria. -Bruce Geist

I can't find a decent photo of the stuff on the web. All the pictures I've
seen make it look like, well, giant hairgrass. It really does look like
chives, right down to having clusters of bulblets (I just made up that
word). It's not ribbon-like, or bladed, like sags or vals.

I got two pots from Arizona Aquatic Gardens which was plenty to do an
approximately 4" x 4" patch with a little left over. To tell you the truth,
I'm not sure if it's started to spread yet or not because I can only see the
tops of it behind my Ludwigia. Anyway, the tops look fabulous back there.

"20 inches is a nice height. It does not seem to go beyond this height?"

True Aquarium Plants - which also has a poor photo of it - describes it as a
midground plant, which it definitely is not. Let's see - my tank is 21.5"
tall with about 3" of gravel in the back and the mature stems bend over
slightly pretty uniformly at the surface so, yeah, I'll call that just shy
of 20".
