I wrote about my attempts to get a lavender, and then a quince, to grow
at a troublesome location. Concerning the quince, I wrote:

I'm actually not sure that the quince is dead
yet -- but it lost about 95% of its leaves in late summer, which was
far too early, even as turgor in the remaining leaves was still good.
It isn't setting buds right now, which it should be doing.

Well, time was my friend. By mid-March I saw new buds on a few
branches. I decided to see how much, if any, of the plant was still
alive. The answer is, all of it! It is fuller and bushier than ever.
It finished flowering a few weeks ago.

I really wasn't expecting six full months of dormancy, especially here
in coastal California (USDA zone 9, Sunset Zone 16). Is this typical
of quinces? How do you suggest that I manage this plant as the summer
comes on?
