The Chelsea Flower show – ‘the world’s most famous flower show’

The web is alive with bloggers stating which is their favourite show garden and the new plants that they simply must have.

What was my highlight you ask? I can’t tell you, because I didn’t go. I couldn’t go. You see, I am a father of young children and so I am prohibited from attending.

Children under 5 are not allowed. Period. I quote from the RHS website; ‘For reasons of comfort and safety, children under five, babes in arms, pushchairs and prams are not admitted to the show under any circumstances.’

Ok so the RHS have one of the best flower shows in the world but I cannot take my 4 year old daughter who loves all things gardening.

You catch my point but if your interested, see my full rant at the link below. Yours, Mucky.

Mad dog Republicans to the right. Democratic spider webs to the left. True conservatives, and liberals not to be found anywhere in the phantasmagoria
of the American political landscape.

America is not broke. The country is awash in wealth and cash.
It's just that it's not in your hands. It has been transferred, in the
greatest heist in history, from the workers and consumers to the banks
and the portfolios of the uber-rich.

I am a docent at a garden owned by a charitable foundation. One major
problem is that parents too often think this is a public park. They
even ask, "Where is the playground?"

Two sections of the garden are supposed to be "quiet places". Screaming
children definitely do not belong there. (Also, I ask people using cell
phones to move to the outer walkway.)

The rules of the garden state, "Adult supervision is required for
children at all times." and "Running through the Gardens and climbing on
rocks, rails or fountains is strictly prohibited." Yet parents often
let their children wander off unsupervised. Children climb on the rocks
and run up the terraces of chain fountains. The parents are at fault
for not controlling their offspring and for not raising them to
understand appropriate behavior.

Yes, children are allowed. We even conduct tours for groups of school
children.

No, you are not.

Children under 5 are not allowed.

The prohibition does not apply to fathers.
You could do what every other parent does to get there; get a babysitter.

Period. I quote from the RHS website;

I've been to Chelsea many times (including, when I was the mother of
young children). The RHS advice is correct, due to the huge crowd on a
relatively small site, it is really only safe for adults and totally
inappropriate for small children. They would be utterly miserable with the
endless queuing and press of people. It's difficult enough for an
ablebodied adult, impossible with a pushchair or baby in arms, and a small
child could see nothing. The marquees are often extremely hot and humid
(and if it rains, people pack in like sardines).

Janet.

I don't know how you can let common sense interfere with the rights
and freedom of the individual like that, you'll want adults to
supervise their children next. How can you possibly constrain the
development of those tiny nascent gardeners with silly rules about
public safety. Your nanny state will turn those babes into robots
before you can say Big Brother.

obviously y'all need to plant more
super thorny roses and shrubs around
things you don't want children to
climb on.

wrap kids in balloons and set
them free. if you hear popping noise
then you can get excited.

no nannyism involved there.

provide random first aid stations
with puncture wound kits and a kissing
sound available by pushing a button.

do they have grape flavored tetanus
chewables yet?
