Default Placing sod at bottom of trench?

I'm digging a 300ft trench about a foot deep for a barberry hedge. The
hedge plant root balls are about six inches deep. Is it ok to place the sod
(that I removed from the top) in the bottom of the trench before back
filling with the soil?
