That's pretty much got the look of a grass. Round, probably hollow stems?
Can't really id it beyond this without a good closeup of the inflorescence and flowers, and maybe not even then from photos. Kay |

Carex pendula, a fairly common garden inscape, or at least something close to it (the flowering shoots are usually more spreading). Sure looks like Carex, but can the "acid" test be applied that (usually) "sedges have edges"! The OP should check, as it isn't clear from the new photos, whether or not the stem is triangular in cross-section, rather than round. -- Jeff |

Probably C. pendula, then, from the size. Wet clay soil, I assume? Sedges have edges -- the cross section of the stem is generally triangular in shape, with the leaves coming off in three "rows" (3-ranked, in botany- speak) while grasses have 2-ranked leaves, and the stems are generally circular in cross section, and hollow between the nodes (places where the leaves are attached). There are some grasses with solid internodes, but the structure of the flowers give them away. Here's a cheat sheet on telling sedges from grasses from rushes: http://www.floridainvasives.org/Central/Graminoids.pdf |
