Default Wanted: bouganvilla info

I have a really nice bouganvilla that is way too big for where it is.
It is very happy there though...trim it way back and almost overnight
it is back to where it was.

The long and the short of it is that it has to go. But first, I want
to have numerous rooted cuttings. Problem is, I can't get any to
root. I'm no gardener but have tried air layering without success.
Others have told me just to stick a cutting in potting soil. I've
done so both with and without rooting hormone and my only reward has
been dead sticks.

Is there some kind soul that knows how to do it and can give me a step
by step process to success?
