I unearthed some termites in the middle of a garen project...
First off, I am not a gardener, bug expert, or landscape pro. My wife
and I have been planning a nice little bush/tree garden for the front of our home for months now, this week (spring break) we took off to start and to finish it. Since last week I have had two swarms of termites in my home. Both minor (if there is such a thing). Yes, I have a termite warranty with my pest control folks, but for some reason that gives me little or no comfort. Anyway, today we were about 3/4 of the way finished with tilling and pulling up the sod when lo-and-behold I hit the ground right up next to my brick on the house with my pick and about 40 winged pests scurry every which way... no, they were not ants, i took a close look. In face there were also the little pale-white worker termites present to. Ironically, about 1 foot away from that colony was a red any colony (thought these guys were enemies). Well, I sat there imagining my biggest investment fall to a heap of dust before my eyes, then I finally said "lets stop for the day". Yes, my pest dude will be out here tomarrow, but I know he isnt going to be able to wave his magic wand and the colony be gone, so my question is can I go on and finish my tilling and digging? Even with that colony there? will my disturbing them make them more wood hungry and make them swarm all over my home ever more? Im so clueless, thanks in advance! Jazz Mann |

NOOO!
do not disturb the colony it's best to get them undisturbed if they are two disturbed they can move and then you will have to find them again I worked for a pest control company before I lost my vision have the pest guy put termite spikes in your yard with treated blocks make sure he treats the entire perimeter of the house do not use mulch for a while unless it is treated red caeder when he sprays try not to disturb the barior he lies down. don't dig it up or it will go away and if you have children or pets don't let him use deamon chemicals this year is the last year they can use that product so they will be trying to get rid of it ad but it is bad news even in smaller consintrations Don't let him lie to you and say it's ok either tell him to use the new stuff even if he has to go to the office to get it Take it from a former technition if you don't have small pets or children you can let him use it michelle On 22 Mar 2004 19:33:17 -0800, (jameson) wrote: First off, I am not a gardener, bug expert, or landscape pro. @comcast.net says... NOOO! do not disturb the colony it's best to get them undisturbed if they are two disturbed they can move and then you will have to find them again the colony will be up to fifteen feet under ground, up to 50 feet away. He has just disturbed a feeding tube, one of many a colony will have or a tube they are creating in preparation of swarming. I worked for a pest control company before I lost my vision have the pest guy put termite spikes in your yard with treated blocks make sure he treats the entire perimeter of the house do not use mulch for a while unless it is treated red caeder when he sprays try not to disturb the barior he lies down. don't dig it up or it will go away I would avoid the baiting...way too much money for no more results you will get. and if you have children or pets don't let him use deamon chemicals this year is the last year they can use that product so they will be trying to get rid of it ad but it is bad news even in smaller consintrations Not sure if you mean dursban...it is already off the market for post construction termite work. Don't let him lie to you and say it's ok either tell him to use the new stuff even if he has to go to the office to get it Take it from a former technition if you don't have small pets or children you can let him use it If by new stuff you mean a product called Termidor, that would be the only thing I would suggest. -- It is said that the early bird gets the worm, but it is the second mouse that gets the cheese. Yes I've not worked in pest control for a few years I know it was supposed to come off the market in 2004 but i didnt' know if that was just for pretreats or for post construction as well I really hated working in pest control I've vowed never to do it again I like what I do now much better Don't let him lie to you and say it's ok either tell him to use the new stuff even if he has to go to the office to get it Take it from a former technition if you don't have small pets or children you can let him use it If by new stuff you mean a product called Termidor, that would be the only thing I would suggest. yes I couldn't think of the name it was driving me nuts |

I unearthed some termites in the middle of a garen project...
well, the bug man came, dug a trench around my house, soacked it with
PREMISE, and filling in all the holes in my brick with prmise... he told me afterwards that his mix had about 15 gallons of the stuff he soaks new home foundations with. So I should be okay... let us hope, no swarmers yet.. thanks all |
