ok,I`ve been battling these little guys for a month now.Easiest way to kill them is when they`re on the lawn feeding on a flower (dandylion).
Just stomp them,not very efficient but its gratifying..The most efficient way I`ve killed them (86 in 2 weeks) is a badmitten raquet.
I`ve read that if you put boric acid in the entrance hole it`ll kill the nest but theres alot of holes .They`re not a social bee like the hairy bumble bee or honey bee.
There are alot of nests not the big central nest where each bee lives as one for the colony.I kll alot while two bees are attached to each other fighting.
Bare wood is very attractive to them,painting helps.
The Female carpenter bee can sting but almost needs to be handled to do so.The Male bee is the guard bee,the one who hovers in front of you .He has no stinger
those are the ones I love to bat down easily.
I think as I`ve killed over 80 of them my nieghbors carpenter bees are moving into the vacant holes.Hes got them in his house and garage. In his garage they`ve worked their way under the roofing shingles,
very hard to get at.
I did use a bee spray on the entrance hole yesterday after reading its not recommended.
The bees came out drunk and I batted them down. Not sure if they would`ve died though if I did`nt.
The funny thing is as I kill one the others pay no attention to me.I`ll keep batting them down,with 80 kills in two weeks I`ll wipe them out easily.

I've got them too but in a wood pile, not in any part of the house.
These little buggers are fast and I doubt I could even wack them with a
racket. I'm sure the neighbors would be amused with me doing the racket
dance all over the yard though. heh

they slow down when trying to find their holes. it's possible they act as
if they can't find the hole to confuse any critter that might watching??

after killing off some by dusting holes, and watching the survivors, i'm
suspecting that each of the small clans repeatedly use the same region of
wood.
