Default Wilted ginger

We've got a beautiful patch of ginger that suddenly developed a circular
area that looks like it just "melted" away. Most of the patch is just
fine. There doesn't seem to be anything different about the conditions
of the area that died. The whole area is on a slope so the drainage
should be the same.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Wayne
