Here's another question: where the heck is the info on eAOS hidden on
the AOS site? Can't find it anywhere.

You won't find eAOS anymore; as far as I can tell, it's been replaced by
AQPlus, V3.0:

http://www.aos.org/aos/HeleoCart/Pro...spx?sq=yi2Xzpy
FRRSCQoALEEU%2f9GYS6iwJxkrLW15wc7WAAsg%3d

(From that page..."Like its predecessor, e-AOS, this highly anticipated
program provides access to all of the the AOS Awards data from 1932 to
the present in Awards Quarterly format."

AQPlus is supposed to be released this month, we saw a beta version of it
earlier this month. I don't currently have any of the programs so I can't
really compare the new version to the old version. Ron McHatton (AOS
Director of Education & Regional somethingorother [he needs a shorter
title], former Atlanta O.S. member) gave us the demo, he is the one that is
doing the synonym tables for the AOS program and he is also the person that
reviews all of the descriptions for the new awards. The program will have
most of the award slides (40+k?) in the first release and should have all of
them soon. One interesting thing is that Ron is starting to go back and
clean up the names on some of the old awards. I think he has the Cycnoches
chlorochilon/warscewiczii/etc group corrected in this first release.

I'd like to reiterate that the 40,000+ images came from Ken Jacobsen at the
Pacific Central. Those of you who judged at the Trustees Meeting in Santa
Rosa saw them there as well as the Pac Central's intranet of laptops on
which to view them. If you judged at the Pacific Orchid Exposition or the
Santa Barbara show you saw it at the POE and maybe in SB. On the AOS forum
someone was touting somebody from Florida as getting all the scanned images
into the program. Which may or may not be true. But there'd BE NO images
if Ken hadn't sat for Hours for *years* scanning them one by one by one.
Over 40,000 of them from the award slides at the Pacific Central. I don't
know why no one at the AOS is shaking his hand or even mentioning his name.
He's a hero.

I've developed a theory that it isn't really the taxonomists behind all
of the changes that we've been seeing. There's really no money in it
for them. When you 'follow the money', you eventually have to come to
the *real* power that's backing making massive changes to every grex we
know.

I figure that it has got to be the manufacturers and vendors of blank
plant tags that are behind it all. ;-)

[gasp!] I think you've got it! And all these tags are made of *plastic*,
an oil product... Omigod! Halliburton strikes again!

You're not the only one. Other judges are unable to find it to purchase it
either. At our last business meeting it was mentioned that the AOS web page
would be going through a revision to make it more user friendly.

I think you have to go to the Bookstore and buy it there. Cost is $50 or
there abouts. IMHO wait for the update with the 40K images to actually be
released before you buy. (Bird in the hand is worht two in the bush)

By the way there's an article comparing OW & eAOS on the AOS Forum. I
think its in the affiliated society section, or another non-culture -
non-photo - non-hybrid part of the Forum.

I have not seen eAOS, but from what I gather, it might be worth a society
owning both, not one or the other.
