There is no substitute for insulin and you will need get past your denial
and wishful thinking and accept that fact. You will need to take insulin for
the rest of your life and there is no way around it.

True, but perhaps some other treatments may mean that he doesn't need
quite as much injected insulin, or maybe not quite as often. If it's
type II diabetes, some patients can do OK with oral meds, but others
need oral meds and/or insulin. And 'proper' diet and exercise can help.

There have been studies of plants and diabetes. There was one about the
effect of Atriplex nummularia (or maybe some other Atriplex species -
saltbush) on a species of desert rat that is prone to diabetes.
Published in the 1980's I think, by someone at the Weismann Institute or
some other Israeli university.

"Sugar" diabetes (diabetes mellitus) is of two types. In Type I, the
pancreas is unable to produce insulin, so the only way the person can
survive is to inject insulin. The other, Type II, is caused by the
cells of the body developing resistance to taking up insulin. This

he's interested in reading about it. The person is already getting
insulin, so they are already under an MD's care and I wasn't
discouraging that. He didn't say anything to merit being treated
unkindly.

Why not cite your references so we all know you are not just making it all
up?

You are the one who went out on a limb with your outrageous claims so you
are the one responsible to provide the proof.

The was trying to find an excuse for not seeking proper medical attention
and are obviously still in denial over the severity of their situation. You
know nothing of their condition and your encouraging them to do the wrong
thing is extremely irresponsible.
