Pond Filter recommendations
I was wondering if I could get a filter replacement recommendation. ...
I have a 1200 gallon with a small number of Koi and am now using a TetraPond. Its a gravity system with plastic media and a small sponge on the top. The water gets cloudy since the filter doesnt filter small particles from the pond. I do 50% water changes or use polyester floss which works but is too my maintenance.... Looking to upgrade to a better filter.... Any suggestions are welcome.... Thank you |

Thank you I have some DYI filters on my website. Click on My Filter and/or Lily Pond filter. If purchasing a filter, depending on finances, if you want something easy to maintain that doesn't have to be done often, look into vortex. My other suggestion is, if going commercial get something rated for 2500 gallons. Filter quotas are like gas mileage on cars, always less than what actually occurs. ~ jan ------------ Zone 7a, SE Washington State Ponds: www.jjspond.us |

build a veggie filter. Jo Ann told me this morning that her ammonia
is almost gone entirely. The water celery (not lettuce) I sent her 12 days ago almost entirely fills her 3' pond she is using as the veggie filter. she now is seeing mulm accumulating in the bottom. her water is crystal clear. Jo Ann has a 10,000 gallon pond with 40 huge koi in it. Ingrid On Fri, 17 Aug 2007 07:28:29 CST, "John Arruda" wrote: I was wondering if I could get a filter replacement recommendation. ... Pond Filter recommendations
yesterday, 9 days after putting in the clump of water celery the water
has no ammonia. the sores on the fish have cleared up, they are back to very peppy. Steve usually takes care of the koi pond but he had knee surgery and didnt tell Jo Ann the ammonia was so bad the chemicals clumped and dropped to the bottom of the test tube so she was doing only a 3,000 gallon per day water change. once she realized how bad the ammonia was she had to run the well water constantly to try to bring the ammonia down. at one point she let it run 24 hours and it didnt get rid of all the ammonia. of course, the biobugs in her 2 big sisters was most likely toast. Jo Ann has been trying to get Steve to set up a veggie filter for a couple years but he didnt think it would do much. Steve had now admitted (first time ever) that he was wrong. So Jo Ann is doing a happy, gloating dance. Ingrid On Sat, 18 Aug 2007 21:25:28 CST, wrote: build a veggie filter. Jo Ann told me this morning that her ammonia is almost gone entirely.
