Default How do you feed your fish?

My fish are still small 1" - 2" and don't seem to care or recognize when
they are being fed. How do you get them to come to the surface and eat?

They will eat algea. Eventually they will come. Mine actually came
wanting food for the first time tonight and I have had them 9 months.

Mother Nature will take care of them. Some small flake food in three
months. after awhile they will learn to feed off the top.

What kind of fish do you have?

1-2" Koi are really small and do not need enough food to come begging yet.
When they get big, they will beg!

I only feed when someone comes over for a visit and wants to see the pond and
fish otherwise they are on their own, I toss a small handfull of glodfish food
in for them.... We do from time to time toss earth worms in, the kids like to
see them "play" tug of war.

I feed my fish once or twice a day, I buy the pellet food and soak it in a
small dish of pond water for a few minutes. Then I throw it in the same spot
every time I feed them. They learn quickly that is where they will be fed
and then when they see you come out to the pond, after awhile, they will
come up to be fed to that spot. I also feed them earthworms, chopped spinach
(frozen that has been thawed) and occasionally other treats. Mostly pellets
though. kim

One fine day: Chris at picked up the keyboard and

One time I had bought some young Koi that we don't think were ever fed
floating food. After a week or so I dropped in sinking shrimp pellets and
they went wild! Poor little guys were really hungry. I mixed some
crushed shrimp pellets in with the floating food. They soon learned to come
UP to eat.
