Default Need ideas for rockless edge.

I'm almost finished digging my hole for my 19'x8'x2' pond and hill stream
(pics to come when I get further along) and need some ideas on how to edge
the pond since here in OK rocks don't grown in the ground like the do where
I'm from (PA). In fact the only thing I've dug up so far in digging my pond
is tree roots, bugs & a matchbox car. So being a little broke at the moment
I can't afford to go buy a ton of rocks to edge my pond, and also wouldn't
exactly match the landscape since there isn't rocks to be found.
Any discount suggestions?
I've thought of trying to 'peel back the turf layer and lay the liner under
it, but summer is coming and I've waited to long and the ground is getting
tock hard, so it won't peel back very well. Besides it's not exactly nice
grass any way, mostly weeds.
Another thought is, since eventually the surrounding pond area will become a
garden is to overlap liner and weedblock, but what to sit on top to the edge
of the pond w/o worry of washing into the pond (like mulch). On that theory
maybe a gravel edging (sidewalk width) instead of mulch.

Thanks for any ideas.

I have the same issue. I didn't want a ring of pearls around the pond, so
what I have done is planted turf grass up to the edge of the pond. On the
back edge, where some trees overhang, I have built of some nice local rock,
and another small pile for an accent. I then planted some other plants like
ivy, and a few others near the pond, with the hopes those blending it all
together. Right now, it's still all a big mud puddle.

I'm in Mississippi and we don't grow many rocks either. I'm probably going
with a low growing ground cover that won't require cutting like grass would.
At least around part of the pond.
