string algae
I have a problem with string algae on everything in my pond. Sides, plants,
etc. Can anyone tell me what is causing this and how I can control it. I thought it would lessen this winter, but it seems to be worse. Any help is appreciated greatly! |

Is this algae very long or just fuzzy? If just fuzzy, leave it alone, it is not only your winter filter, but fish food. If long and tangling things up and looking messy, use your hand or purchase a small plastic shrub rake and rake the worst of it out, do not remove all of it, as again it is a filter. Removing all could set you up to get pea soup algae.... prior to removing it you might want to check your water parameters, ammonia, nitrite, nitrAte, pH & Kh to make sure nothing is going on there. If your nitrAte is high, do a water change. ~ jan See my ponds and filter design: http://users.owt.com/jjspond/ ~Keep 'em Wet!~ Tri-Cities WA Zone 7a To e-mail see website |
