Default Skunk cabage???

I have found what appears to me as sprouting skunk cabage. It smells
awfull, it is red and as I tried to hand dig it out of the marsh I
noticed that the stem went down quite a bit (8-12"). Does anybody know
if this is in fact skunk cabage. If it is, will it do good in my VF?
Any idea how deep the roots go? I don't want to cut it with a shovel
thrust!

I've never heard of skunk cabbage in a
pond or veggie filter. I'm wondering if it would
like a fairly acid environment?

I goggled it and here is a web page
