Damn Varmints ate my Duckweed!
"Bill Stock" wrote in message ... Well I bought my Duckweed and put it in a big wash tub, so I could add some to the Pond as needed. I was worried last night, as it rained pretty hard and I filled the tub a little too full. I had visions of all the Duckweed floating out of the tub. So I checked it first thing this morning and the water level was lower than before the rain. I looked closely and noticed that more than half of my Duckweed is gone! Damn Varmints! It looks like the Coons had a drinking party last night. Might have been the Rabbits I suppose. I guess the tub was not a bright idea in any event, as I have no way to keep the skeeters out. OK, so Coons don't eat Duckweed. I looked again and saw some dried up Duckweed on the ground around the tub. Silly Coons must have been using the Wash Tub for washing. This explains why the water level dropped, they overflowed the tub during their bath. |

Hey Bill, They might have also been fishing, they are pretty smart and probably have come across a container pond full of tasty snails and fish. They will eat anything they have a mind to but you are probably right they were cavorting in your tub. kathy :-) algae primer http://hometown.aol.com/ka30p/myhomepage/garden.html |

Fortunately they haven't realized the electric fence is burned out. It was cute to watch the three baby Coons mousing last week. They would scurry through the tall grass trying to flush out the mice. kathy :-) algae primer http://hometown.aol.com/ka30p/myhomepage/garden.html |

Depending on the tub's size, maybe you could use screen door material held
down with a bungee cord around the tub? Keep the skeeters out and confuse the cavorting coons? ~ jan On Sat, 17 Jul 2004 10:06:40 -0400, "Bill Stock" wrote: Well I bought my Duckweed and put it in a big wash tub, so I could add some to the Pond as needed. Then just sit the frame over the tub and weight it down. Likely not coon proof, but worth a shot. Thanks. |
