Can anyone give any info on brands of good quality, high volume,
long-lasting submersible pumps? Thanks in advance!

I've had very good luck with Supreme mag-drive pumps.
Inexpensive to buy and also to run.

May sound goofy, but I've been using a Rio Power Head pump for my water fall
for about a year. It's easy to control the flow and it seems to work fine.
