They have also begun to spring up in patches in the middle of the yard. Since this is not a binaries group and they frown on attachments, here are links to photos of the culprits: http://www.theshipmanfamily.com/100_0475.jpg http://www.theshipmanfamily.com/100_0476.jpg Looks like Virginia Creeper. I'm jealous! I bought one from the nursery as it's supposed to be a good shade grower, but have not managed to get it going. I have at least three growing near my front porch, and I haven't been able to erradicate them! I've even dug up root balls three years in a row. Within a couple of weeks, they're baaaack! If you'd like to visit Leander with a shovel, you're welcome to retrieve as many chunks-o-specimen as you'd like. :-) :-) If I could ever find the time, I would. I'd be happy to pay you for a live root ball... Since you can't eradicated it, try potting it and selling it. I've taken plant propagates and traded them at the nurseries for other plants that I've wanted. Many are amenable to doing that. -- Peace, Om Remove _ to validate e-mails. I have a plan. :-) The three in the flower bed, I'll take the suggestion upthead (thanks!) and liberally dose with the RoundUp. The one around the other corner of the porch, I'll just keep pulling up by the roots (it's presence doesn't annoy me as much) and you can come retrieve its tenacious root ball (free! no charge!) if you ever have the time. :-) |

Before you eradicate it, I paid $3.00 for a 4" pot of that vine at a local nursery... -- Peace, Om Remove _ to validate e-mails. I'm horribly navigationally challenged. (IOW I get lost easily!). Any chance I could just pay for postage for a root ball? ;-) -- Peace, Om Remove _ to validate e-mails. OTOH, dead presidents work for me too... (aka, cash). Hopefully, she will respond. If not, I have her private e-mail. -- Peace, Om Remove _ to validate e-mails. Any chance I could just pay for postage for a root ball? ;-) me thinks he doth exaggerate just a mite.... :-) Leander is 25.4 miles north(ish)/northwest(ish) of downtown Austin. On the weekend (i.e., no traffic), it takes me about 30 minutes to get downtown. During the week, unless traffic is absolutely horrendous, it takes me 45-60 minutes. So, if you know how long it takes you to get to downtown Austin from San Marcos, you can estimate. And yes, you can get sucked into the tollroad (183A version) at 620 and 183. But that's no where near Pflugerville (unless the reference was to a different P'ville). 183A goes right through the northern edge of Leander, and I live halfway between 183A and 183 (about 1/4 mile from each). Unfortunately, my torn meniscus won't let me dig up root balls. :-( Which is one reason this summer that they are unusually vibrant, healthy, thriving, and attempting to grow up the pillars of my porch from which I ruthlessly rip them every couple of weeks. :-) If you think you might want to attempt to rescue them, I'll hold off applying the RoundUp for a while. I'll just stand in my doorway and point the bottle threateningly in the direction of the flower bed. |
