Does anyone know where I can purchase inexpensive plastic pots,
wholesale? I'm mainly looking for gallon sizes. We just got a couple of
greenhouses and I've been recycling older pots, but I have mostly 3" and
4" pots. Nothing fancy, just basic cheap nursery pots.

My kids need more room for roots..... ;-)

Barton Springs Nursery has a dumpster plus an associated pile of pots
that is being "recycled". Maybe that means you can take stuff out of
it if you need it. You might call them and ask.

I did manage to get pots out of the dumpster at Lowe's last year, but
they would not let me take them the other day. :-P Jerks! Wastrels!

Thanks for the tip! I'll do more scrounging for sure, (I have no
problems with dumpster diving!) but if anyone knows where I can bulk
order the type of pots that most plants come it, please post???

3900 block of Bee Caves Road - there abouts. I would look them up in
the phone book and call, though. Landscape installation companies
waste a lot of these pots and have few ways to get them back to the
commercial grower - who probably does not want them anyway as they
would need to be washed and sterilized prior to reuse.

So going through the phone book and calling a few of the bigger
landscape installation/maintenance companies (TexasScape comes to
mind) could lead to a goldmine of use pots.

Wholesale nursery suppliers are not likely to be either found or want
to do business with you. It is an inbred industry. I suspect that
some form of begging and dumpster diving works best.

I've gotten them from a number of nurseries just by asking. Lowes sucks
anyway - for home products go to Home Depot - better selection and pricing.

We have put up two small greenhouses, and plan to erect two more.
I have a 72 year old retired dad that lives with me, and he is looking
for a hobby he can make a little extra pocket change with, so the pots
would be cleaned and eventually re-sold with new plants in them. I have
a good book on plant propagation, and I've got dozens of 2" and 3"
recycled pots already from plants we have bought, but I need some gallon
pots for the "mother" plant perennials that he'd be making cuttings
from. :-) I'm running out of larger pots to do transplants.

I personally collect cacti so prefer clay pots for those, but those are
not all that expensive at this point. I may propagate the cacti at a
later date, but that is my project not his. G I also have some
tropical plants in my greenhouse that I love that will need more root
space over time.
